Janine has been a rancher, restaurateur, gardener, cook, artist and entrepreneur.
Janine in her greenhouse when she was doing hydroponic gardeningWith all the life and work roles Janine has had in her long life you would think she'd be ready to finally retire and take it easy.
Yes, she is taking time to enjoy life and not be so busy. But would she call it retirement?
"I don't think retirement is the right word at all. The roles in my life have been many and I have experienced working in a wide variety of jobs. I've been a rancher, a restaurateur, a gardener, a cook, an artist, an entrepreneur — and now an author. Which one was I supposed to retire from? Being alive?
I think we get this wrong: we treat the later years as the epilogue, the winding down. But some of my boldest chapters came late — writing this book, for one.
I'd say don't retire from your life. Just change what you're doing with it. The most interesting chapter might be the one you haven't written yet.
Whatever chapter you're in — the hard one, the boring one, the one where you're waiting for permission — you don't have to stay there.
I started over more times than I can count, in more countries than I can count, and every time I thought I was finished, I wasn't.
So don't wait until you're ready. Don't wait until you're unafraid. Start with the next step, the small one, today. The life you're postponing is still waiting for you — and it's not too late.
It was never too late.
